Para celebrar  el vigésimo quinto aniversario de la Comisión sobre Historia de la Matemática en África, dependiente de la Uniòn Africana de Matemàtica, fue editado un libro dedicaco a la investigación historiogràfica y de divulgación de la historia de la matemàtica en  Africa; de ello nos informa a continuación el compañero Paulus Gerdes, Chairman of AMUCHMA

Prezados colegas e amigos,
Tenho a honra de enviar o anúncio internacional da publicação do nosso livro (924 páginas) sobre 25 anos de pesquisa historiográfica e de divulgação da história da matemática em África. O co-autor Ahmed Djebbar é matemático e historiador da ciência, professor emérito das universidades de Lille e Paris na França, antigo conselheiro presidencial para cultura e antigo Ministro da Educação e Ciência da Argélia. Juntos  temos dirigido, desde a nossa eleição inicial em 1986, a comissão para a história da matemática em África (reeleitos em 1991, 1995, 2000, 2004 e 2009).

The book reproduces* * the thirty-seven newsletters published by AMUCHMA (African Mathematical Union Commission on the History of Mathematics in Africa) since its birth in 1986. The book celebrates the 25 years of AMUCHMA by giving a vivid picture of the activities that took place, of the studies done, of the queries, of sources, of meetings, of lectures, of dissertations, of publications… At the end of the book are included country and name indices.

The book contains Prefaces written by Professor Saliou Touré (President of the African Mathematical Union), by Professors Craig Fraser and Elena Ausejo (Chair and Secretary of the International Commission for the History of Mathematics), and by Professor Eberhard Knobloch (President of the International Academy of the History of Science).

Professors Aderemi Kuku (President [1986-1995] and Honorary President of the African Mathematical Union) and Jean-Pierre Ezin (Commissioner for Human Resources, Sciences and Technology of the African Union)  wrote the Afterwords.

  1. ¿Y alguien sabe cómo puede hacer uno para obtener un ejemplar de esta valiosa obra? La califico de valiosa sin haberla leído, porque solo su intención es un enorme valor en sí. Y además debe uno presuponer que quienes tomaron la iniciativa saben bien lo que se traen entre manos.

    Agradezco cualquier información.
